1976 Eureka Bicentennial Edition Upright vacuum 1414 B

This is my latest find. I saw this on Craigslist some time ago and never paid it any mind. Well, I saw it again last week and felt sorry for it. I called and arranged to meet the owner at his mini storage where it had been sitting way up high on a shelf for a long time. It was missing a bottom plate, had a locked 3.3 amp motor, a makeshift upper cord hook, a very hard to rotate wooden beater bar, and was absolutely filthy! At this point I felt really bad for the machine and purchased for .00. I got a used bottom plate and quick release cord hook for .00, removed all debris from beater bar end caps and oiled bearings, new belt, washed outer bag and replaced inner bag, freed and oiled motor bearing, and did an overall good cleaning. The attachments are quality, even has an aluminum converter and metal wand and handle. I did have to replace the weatherstripping on the converter as the old was dry-rotted and disintegrated as you touched it. It was after fixing it all up that I noticed the Liberty Bells and American Eagles all mixed in with the paisley bag design. Indeed this turned out to be Eureka’s Special Bicentennial Edition vacuum. I would love to add the Hoover Convertible Special Bicentennial Edition vac to my collection someday. I don’t have a convertible (other than the Decade 800) at this time…I’ve been waiting for the right one to come along.

  1. @professorkiwi Thanks! I’m trying to find out more info on the machine. I’m seriously thinking it was from the mid 70’s, around the bi-centennial, by the look of the paisley bag with the bald eagles and liberty bells. Might be some sort of special edition.

  2. @fgbags definitely a special edition for the Bicentennial in 1976…..Eureka only went to plastic wands in the late 1970’s.

  3. @bdtorobin I was thinking that!!!! I’m glad I picked this thing up. I know hoover had one also, I favorited it yesterday from a fellow you-tuber. Thanks for responding!
