I was cleaning a bit and my vacuum picked up something that got stuck inside. It makes a loud shrill noise as if the motor will "blow" any minute. Where and how do I look inside to try and unclog it myself.

If it is an upright vacuum, usually the clog is in the hose that runs from the base up into the compartment where the bag is attached. Disconnect one end of that hose and stick a broomstick into it to push out any clogs. If there is nothing there, the other place that is often clogged is the very short section that runs runs from the brushes into the hose that I just described. If those two things fail, you probably have a clogged filter which needs to be cleaned.
