my bf and i recently moved into an apartment. we were glad to discover the previous owner had left behind their vacuum but i discovered a hole in the bag. i told my bf not to use the vacuum till i bought new bags but of course he didn’t listen. how likely is it that the motor is ruined after a few times vacuuming with the hole in the bag? i dont want to buy new bags if the vacuum is ruined.
If the motor is running it’s good. Get the bags and go. You should be thankful the guy actually used the vacuum, not complaining. That’s a rare man you’ve got there…

Replace the bag and start cleaning.

Not sure about how rare your bf is, but you or he should take the old bag out of the cleaner, clean the interior and the actual bag itself, extremely well. Then take the vac itself, turn it upside down and shake it if you or he can. Then take the new bag, install it, to see if the motor is running up to snuff. If it is then you’ll need new bags soon, if not, pitch it.
