A bagless is better because you don’t need to try and find/buy bags for it and a canister vacuum seems to maintain the power of the motor a whole lot longer than a bagged vacuum from my own experiences.
It depends on what your needs are.
I haven’t found the canister vacuums to be very reliable. That being said, canister vacuums are the quietest type. They come in bagged or bagless versions
Bagged vacuum cleaners have better suction and maintain their suction better throughout the life of the machine.
Bagless vacuums, although convenient, don’t maintain suction as well and tend not to last as long as their bagged style competition
Your best rated bagless upright is going to cost you more initially than the best bagged upright vacuum.
