My vacuum quit after using Space Bags?

My vacuum was working fine before I started using space bags. Everything was fine when I sealed the first bag. However, after I sealed the second bag, my vacuum quit. My husband thinks all of the air that came out of the bags went into the vacuum’s motor and caused it to quit. I do not know if this is right or not. What do you think? Have you ever had a similar problem?
Unfortunately, it has been two hours. It still won’t turn on.
Thank you all for your answers.

  1. Vacuums work by a motor turning a fan which draws air through a sealed system. If there is no air to pull, the motor strains to pull air because by the laws of physics the fan has to draw something in a sealed system and if there is no air, it pulls and pulls overheating and then burning up..unless you have a safety thermal switch. What kind of vacuum is it? Most vacuums have a thermal switch. In most cheaper vacuums it’s an internal one-time only fuse. Vacuums from a vac shop that are well built will have a internal reset thermal switch or a manual reset on the back of the machine. However, it shouldn’t overheat that fast because they are designed to have resistance to the air flow and they have mechanical saftey systems as well. You can put your hand on the end of the hose and an internal valve will open when the suction gets to a certain point.

If you paid over 150.00 its probably worth getting it checked out. Most estimates should be under 10.00. Let me know if you have any questions. I’m a tech and have been doing this for awhile

  2. It could have just overheated, give it a couple hours to cool off and try it again. I think some vacuums have a thermal safety feature on it that causes it to shut down. Good luck.
