Why does my vacuum cleaner have no suction?

Help! I have a Dirt Devil Swivil Upright vacuum cleaner, only had it for six mos. now and bought it brand new. I noticed yesterday that it wasn’t picking up at all. I pulled the hand held hose out to check and sure enough there is no suction what so ever! I checked to make sure there were no clogs or anything that had stopped it up, I also checked the belt and the bag was just replaced a couple days ago, it was practically empty. It sounds fine, there is just no suction. Any ideas? I just can’t get a new vacuum right now. Thanks in advance!

  1. Not sure about your exact model, but my upright Dirt Devil had a large, plastic "tupperware"-style front panel on the upright part. I had to be mindful of making sure that snapped back in place after having replaced the bag (you said you recently replaced the bag).

If the brush in the floor funnel unit is rotating, you shouldn’t have the motor stuck. Those are the only things I can think of.

  2. take it back if you have the recipt or call the company to see what the would do. Or go ge it fixed

  3. Is everything hooked up right? My vacuum won’t suction even if I just have the door open to where the bag sits. Is the roll turning? Is the belt turning? Is the belt too stretched out? I know you said you checked it but if it melted on something and stretched out, you may not notice it. Is or was there anything wrapped around the roll, like hair or carpet string that built up? My vacuum also had (my) long hair wrapped around the roll and I didn’t realize it until later. But even after I cut it off, it wasn’t working. Turns out that the hair made the belt melt and stretch out the belt. Last question, are you sure you checked all the areas where it can clog?

  4. If as you said you’ve checked out every possible causes
It could be the swivel blades in side that might have gone loose
If it’s just 6 months of purchase
I would advice you bring it back on warranty
Please do not try dismantling it
In doing so, your warranty will be void
