I don’t know much about vacuums and this one was given to me. It is an older Eureka "The Boss Power" vacuum. I just moved into a new apartment and the new carpet is shedding and the vacuum will not work to pick up anything. Since I just moved I dont have money to go buy a vacuum so do not suggest that.
Is this a sign that the bag needs changing? The belt? Idk.
Thanks!!
Many have filters that have to be cleaned. First shake out, then wash and dry. Mine is a 6" circle of filter fabric that lays over the motor in my canister model. If it’s too full, it looses suction. Also, if there are brushes, be sure to clean them . Remove hair and fibers. They "sweep" dust, hairs, etc. into suction area.
You might start by turning your vaccum cleaner over on it’s side and checking to see if your belt is worn or torn. Make sure the back is empty. If it is not either of these problems, then I would say that your vaccum is clogged. It may be in the hose or clogged from below. If the hose gets clogged, it will not pick anything up from the floor either. Turn your vaccum on and put the hose against your hand. If it has no succion then there is usually a clog somewhere. I use a broom handle and put it down the hose to try and push it., Or if it is from underneath, you will need to take the bottom plate off and pull the rotaty brush out and see if you can find it that way. I hope this helps.
9 times out of ten, it’s the belt. First, check the air ways for clogs and empty the bag. lastly it could have a worn impeller, but that would be a gradual decline in suction.
Mine did that. It was clogged with lint between the brush and bag. Clear it and replace the bag. It should improve considerably.
