So I bought a manual carpet cleaner and I have halved my electricity bill by using the hoover only once per week. also saving on hoover bags. PS. I realize this is not a question but it is a useful tip for others to follow, Don’t you think ?

Carpet companies recommend that you "hoover" your carpets everyday to keep them clean and odor free. Personally I feel it isn’t necessary to do it more than once every week or two. I use a carpet sweeper at the end of each day instead. It’s quieter and definetly uses no electricity.
Isn’t knowledge beautiful. You made one simple change and it saved you money and is helping the environment. Another great carpet tip. If you use deodorizers, consider sprinkling baking powder on your carpets at least an hour before you vacuum, it will help eliminate odor.
I hope this is the beginning for your enlightenment. There are so many things that we use machines for when they don’t take much human effort to accomplish.
