Impressive!,
Boy, was he right. This is vacuuming like it is supposed to be. The Miele has incredible suction while also being quiet. Yes, I know other brands claim quiet, but I can have a conversation while vacuuming with the Miele. Bonus points is that it does not frighten my dogs at all. Speaking of dogs, this picks up hair very well. I have a German Shepherd with thick hair and a yellow Lab that sheds a lot and have always had issues getting their hair out of the grains of the carpet. The Miele picks them up with ease.
I couldn’t be more impressed with this vacuum. I wish I got a high quality vacuum much sooner. It is the simple joys in life knowing you don’t have to go over an area twice. Last but not least, you can find the bags for a little under $5 on Amazon. Sort of expensive, but these are LARGE bags that hold quite a lot. Also, after messing around with inferior vacuums, I’m okay with paying slightly more for a quality clean.

I love this vacuum,
The trade-off for the weight, is a super strong vacuum that does a fantastic job. This is easily the best vacuum I’ve ever owned, so far as cleaning power and quality of build, so I guess the added weight is to be expected. The blue color is just beautiful. It’s a little dark for my taste – I would have preferred a royal blue – however, I do like it and it looks very stylish. I’m hoping replacement bags aren’t outrageously priced. Oh, and with my allergies, the HEPA filtration is just mandatory these days, so I’m thankful for that.
This vacuum is actually pretty versatile. The body folds flat for getting underneath stuff, and the power button is conveniently placed near the handle, so no stooping to turn it on. The long cord is a bonus, I hate feeling like I’m on a leash when vacuuming. All the attachments fit on the body nicely, however, the smaller one falls off frequently. There’s a good variety of cleaning tools and I liked how taut and springy the main hose was; coils back into itself neatly every time and stretches a good distance while detached and in use.
Overall, this is a high quality vacuum that is well worth the money. Aside from the weight, I have nothing but praise for it.

Powerful, quiet vacuum, but poor warranty,
Both the Miele and Dyson are well-constructed, sturdy vacuums that will hold up to extensive use. Although well designed for the practical, the Miele includes a variety of subtle trims/extras that make the user experience nicer. The coating material on the handle is smooth, and comfortable to the touch- nice when you’re vacuuming for long periods. The pedal to release the vacuum back and the button to extend the hose are smooth and effortless. The only rough spot in the design is the opening and closing the front hatch to access the filter bag, which had me worried I was going to break something if I applied too much force.
The Miele and Dyson are equal in maneuverability- the Miele is heavier, but has stronger propulsion; the Dyson is lighter, but is more reliant on your propulsion. Both twist and turn easily, and both lie flat. The Miele won the ultimate test- how much they pick up, and how easily. The attached photo shows my cat’s favorite area of rug; the center of the photo illustrates how bad the entire area was. The left shows the rug after one back and forth pass with the Dyson, the right, one pass with the Miele. The Dyson area isn’t bad, but needed a few more swipes. The Miele was almost perfect. The Miele was also quieter; it was in fact one of the quietest vacuums I’ve ever used.
The Dyson is bagless, a huge plus. Bags for the Miele are expensive ($18 for 4), and difficult to find locally. Both vacuums have HEPA filtration.
In terms of peripherals, the two are almost equal. The Miele has a 39 ft. cord, the Dyson a 35 ft. cord. The Dyson has a 15 1/2 ft. hose (vs. 12 ft. Miele), but the Miele is easier to extend. They both come with a dusting brush and nozzle, but the Dyson comes with a turbine tool, while the Miele has an “upholstery tool” which I found almost useless. (The Miele Dynamic U1 Cat and Dog $649, almost $200 more expensive, provides a turbine tool.)
Lastly, and very importantly, Miele provides a 7-year warranty, but it is a limited warranty, which provides minimal coverage. Dyson provides a 5-year full parts and labor warranty.
