This review is from: Hoover U5491-900 Anniversary Edition WindTunnel Bagged Upright (Kitchen)
I’ve had this vacuum for about 2 years now. It is still under its original 3 year warranty. It is powerful and affordable.
The pluses: 1. adjustable carpet height 2. headlight 3. long cord 4. foot pedal lock/unlock 5. on/off switch on handle 6. regular/hi clean switch 7. on board tools/extension wands 8. flexible hose 9. HEPA filters 10. large capacity dirt collection bag 11. clean/dirty carpet indicator light 12. exhaust located high up off ground 13. number of features for price
The downsides: 1. no on/off brush switch 2. heavy/non-self propelled 3. noisy 4. must manually wind cord 5. skeptical that bag full indicator works 6. will not win beauty contest
Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. I have a small studio apartment with mostly carpet so this vacuum has worked well for me. I have a small kitchen, bathroom, and front entrance area with linoleum so I don’t vacuum those areas since there’s no off brush switch, though I suppose I could. The suction is very strong, even after 2 years. I use it about once a month, and I haven’t changed out the bag yet. The only time I had a problem was when the rubber belt slipped off the brush mechanism, but it was a quick 5 minute fix with a screwdriver to push the belt back on. Even if it was a larger problem, I could have taken it to a Hoover approved dealer to get fixed since it is still under warranty. I actually think my shuttling the vacuum from my house to my friend’s house caused the belt to fall off anyways. Other than that, there have been no reliability problems whatsoever. I’m skeptical that the bag full indicator works, but then again my bag has yet to be filled to capacity.
It is a sturdy vacuum, especially for the price. It’s not perfect, but the features are generous for this price point. My next purchase will be a Hoover, but this time I will buy one with an on/off brush switch and possibly with self-propulsion, even though this type of vacuum will be more expensive.
If you’re looking for an affordable vacuum with most, but not all the features, this is the one to go with. However, Hoover has released some updated versions with additional features for comparable prices, so be sure to look at those models as well: UH30300
