Need a vacuum that won't get clogged. HELP?

I have birds. I would like to vacuum up the little feathers and seed from the tile before I mop. I also have a doggie with longish hair and a shag rug that both seem to be shedding all the time. I have tried bagged, baggless vacuums. uprights. All seem to get clogged, mostly at the point where the hoses bend. My latest is supposed to have a HUSH mode, but thats not what it does. Im not happy with this one either, when it did get clogged, the whole back had to be unscrewed and taken off to clear it. Please don’t say dyson animal, i can’t afford it. I need alternatives that will work on tile and carpet. Have you used one that has worked especially good for you?
wow all the answers were great, thanks, but im gonna go with the shopvac as that will also work around the house for other things too, so im looking for one now. TYAVM btw, these are the TINY little fuzzy feathers that are lighter than air, can’t pick them up by hand.

  1. I have an Oreck XL. At the time I bought it I had a siberian husky (they drop their coat 2x per year) and 2 german shepherds. All of my vacuums would clog. My hubby saw a comercial for Oreck that stated a money back 30 day guarentee for the vacuum. It was guarenteed not to clog and if it did, they would pay for it to be returned. So we tried it and it worked. I haven’t had a clog yet. I think I bought it in 1998. I have heard that the Orecks that are being made now aren’t as durable, but maybe they still have the guarentee. It would be worth checking. They have a website with a phone number you can call and check. Also, I have hardwood floors and carpet, and it goes on both just fine. Good luck!

  2. i was gonna say dyson…. my mom broke down and bought one but she says it is worht every cent.. has never had a problem with it and she has 3 cats- did have a dog that shedded so bad it was like a carpet of dog hair…. it sucked it all up with no problem and you dont have to worry about bags or filters….
most vaccums you buy in the store that are like 100-200 dollars you will have issues with clogging or not getting a good vaccuming….
i have a dirt devil featherlite bagless with hepa filter (its about 4 years old tho) but it has treated me well.. it is actually my moms old vaccuum……it has survived vaccuming up drywall and construction debris and pet hair… my mom had probs with it clogging once in a while but not too bad.. it has a filter that is about 25 dollars tho… you can just bang the crud out of it and re-use it.. but id reccomend replacing it every 6-12 months.. i think it costs around 150-200

  3. i have a Kirby and it works great you can use it on any kind of surface and it is very powerful it will surprise you i have had it for years and never had a problem with it getting clogged i have many animals and kids so it is amazing the things i have sucked up with it

  4. I don’t think you’re going to find one that will allow you to sweep up bird feathers…. that’s crazy… You need to pick those up and throw them away.
