Need some advice on buying a new vacuum … ?

I need to buy a new vaccuum – a relatively small upright with a hose that’s relatively cheap. (And perhaps something that’s good for the dust and allergens in the air because I have two cats. I’ve heard that vacuums with bags are not so good for the air? But this is not a priority.) Right now I have a Dirt Devil Deluxe with a ruined cord and a bad motor. I’ll be shopping at Target or Shopko or the like. Which brands do you think are the best values? Any other advice will be appreciated.

  1. I got my Bissell bagless at Wal-Mart two years ago for only $50. It is light and has Hepa filtration – great for cat dander an other allergens. It is light enough to carry up and downstairs and has five different heights for different carpet piles. It was a great value for the money – I replace the filters about twice a year and just dump out the collector after every use – it can be washed out in a utility sink or with the garden hose if you wish.

  2. I have the Dirt Devil Breeze and I really like it a lot. It was less than $60 and stand up to 2 boys, 2 cats and a dog. I think that was a very good value…
    Peace.

  3. I clean houses for a living and I LOVE the eureka Optima. It is very light weight, sucks like a champ, and has filters for allergens….wow, we look a lot alike…lol

  4. Personally i’d go for a dyson, but they’re not cheap. My husband has bad allergies and is allergic to a lot of things, and using the dyson has helped so much. It even purifes the air while you vaccume. My husband can tell on what days i vaccume simply by the walking in the house and smelling the air. It’s crazy. Anyways, it’s a great vaccume and totally worth the money if you can afford it. Good luck in your hunt, I hope you find what you’re needing.

  5. I have a friend who cleans houses profesisonally, she told me years ago that dirt devll just pushes the dirt around. Bissell is good. Just please look at the features of the vacuums. Check for filters, etc.
Personally, if money was no object, I would highly recommend SEBO vacuums. I bought one(around 5-600$) but well worth it.
But back to your budget, Bissell, Hoover, there is one other name, but I can’t think of it right now. Bissell has been around for several years, Hoover, for many years.
Just, again, lease read the descriptions with each machine at the store, especailly filters, and I think hepa filters too, work -for allergins. Happy shopping! Take care.

  6. Whatever you buy, make sure the replacement filters are sold there, too. I bought a new vacuum a few years ago and can’t find the filters anywhere but on-line, and to replace them both costs about $50.00.
