What vacum do you recommend and why? Filter or bagless/cannisterless?

I’m buying a new vacum and I want consumer feedback from other persons. I have been to the retailers, viewed sites and read up on the material. The one thing I have not done is talked to others, this is the reason for this question. I currently own a Hoover-bag type.

  1. These two have good ratings, Bissell Healthy Home and Kenmore Progressive. I have a Phantom Thunder that I like really well.

  2. Simplicity 7 series. Many hotel chains use them. Very durable and not too heavy. Mine was about 450.00.

  3. I have used both Bag and Bagless. One thing I don’t like about bagless is they have all leaked dust into air after first year. It seems the seals always give out…..now I’m sure the have some good ones…like the Dyson…which cost you your first born son. I have used the bag type for the last few years and now that the bags have gotten better…I think they are the best.
I did have a Rainbow vacuum cleaner at one time…best thing around if it wasn’t cumbersome getting around the house.

  4. If you really want a good vacuum cleaner I would recommend the Rainbow. It uses water as the filter you just place some water in the body of it and when you through vacuuming just dump the water out and rinse. It eliminates all the dust that vacuums stir up and there is no dust that escapes through the water. It is quite and will last for years. It can be used as a air purifier, with optional equipment it can shampoo your carpets and furnishing. The only draw back on it is that our was around 1100.00 for everything. It is now around 10 years old and is still like new. I have to say that it a well built, durable machine.

  5. We have the Kenmore Progressive and love it. We have the older model with the disposible bags. I prefer the bags because it is easier than cleaning the filter.

  6. I currently am using a bagless machine- a Bissell Upright. The filters do have to be rinsed thoroughly now and then, but it’s great not having to shell out an arm and a leg for new bags that I might even have to look for a specialty store for.

Another machine that I have used in the past is a Dirt Devil. They were powerful- and they needed to be, as I was a housekeeper at the time.

Some here have recommended Dyson or the Rainbow vacuum- but both of those are expensive.
